So early last month I got it in my head that I wanted a laptop. I did a lot of shopping around but I wasn't sure which direction to go. And then a friend of mine from SCAD came to visit for the weekend and brought her ModBook. I'd never even considered a tablet PC before...! In my mind they were all terrible, laggy, clunky things not worth the money. But after some extensive window-shopping I got one:

This thing is.. out of control. It's a Lenovo ThinkPad X220 Tablet. Which.. looking at the website now, I musta gotten on a crazy promotional sale because it most certainly did NOT cost me $2k. Whoa!!
It's 12.5", got Windows 7 (which is still weirding me out lol), an i5 processor, Wacom digitizer with 512 lvls of pressure and no lag, and folds into the lovely portable sketchpad-esque shape you see pictured above.
I was able to initially install Photoshop CS5 and it worked like a charm, but Flash took a bit of finagling. It wasn't recognizing pressure sensitivity, which is quite the problem since I intend to use this thing for work. I have no idea what I did but my buddy suggested a few fixes to try out and VOILA. IT WORKS.
Now my unstoppable machine is complete!!
While trying to work everything out I got cranky and drew this in PS.

So in my last post I mentioned I was trying to do a drawing a day for the month of November and then... never posted anything again! Haha well that wasn't very smart. I actually did ALMOST accomplish my goal, minus a handful of days over the Thanksgiving holiday where I was feeling lazy. Most of them are really embarrassingly bad, so here are a few that I don't hate. Which will just have to do!

October is over! Where did the time go??
Anyways, I'm trying to do a non-work-related sketch a day in November this year. I'm finished with my freelance and my nights are mercifully FREE once again!
However, yesterday I was stricken with the single worst headache I have ever had in my entire life. I really can't describe to you how debilitating it is/was. It was relentless, no drugs helped in the slightest, and sleep could not put a dent in it. I have been on the verge of teary-eyed madness all day long. I called in sick though, so I was able to stay home and writhe in misery in the comfort of my bed instead of a subway car. I am finally, 2 days later, feeling better.
And so, entry #1 is headache-related (and technically a day late)

Sorry I've been scarce. Working 2 jobs leaves you with very little time. But certainly a better deal than the alternative, so I'll take the work!

It's that time of year again: When I annoy the shit out of everyone cheering for the Phillies in the post-season!! We have tickets to game 6 of the NCLS this Saturday in Philly and up til last night we weren't sure if there was gonna BE a game 6. But the Phils pulled through and now I can live the dream!!

Those of you who've ever had the privilege to use a cintiq for any length of time can attest to the fact that it is not only super awesome and convenient, but also seems to generate heat equivalent to that of a thousand burning suns right underneath your drawing arm. This by no means hinders the awesomeness of the cintiq, it just makes working from home in 100-degree weather super great.
Took a break from work to draw this. It's amazing what having other obligations will do for your desire to draw anything but what you're obligated to draw.

WELL Lost is over forever. I am legitimately bummed out about it today. That or I am hungover from all the Dharma beer we drank.
I celebrated in true nerd-fashion by baking fish biscuits and gathering a dozen fellow Losties together to watch and yell at the TV with me. The finale may have been less than stellar, but the party made up for it! haha.Anyways, I drew this earlier in the week in honor of my two new favorite people: Titus Welliver and Mark Pellegrino. They're old middleschool-epic characters of mine, so their stories have disintegrated to mostly nothing, but basically Bartram is crazy and Sophie is a fig-newton of his imagination. So I've been attending the Tuesday night ASIFA sessions at SVA for the past 4 weeks, and it's quickly becoming the highlight of my week lol. Get Chipotle on 6th ave, then draw naked people for a couple hours! What could be better? Sadly tonight was the last one until sometime early Feb. But I'll be back for sure.

My first few sessions were spent shaking the rust off, and since scanning is a huge pain in the ass, I'll just share drawings from tonight. Our model was amazing, like he stepped out of a Loomis anatomy book. So much fun to draw!

Yesterday I went to the American Museum of Natural History with my Aunt, Uncle, and two younger cousins while they were visiting the city. They were generous enough to get me tickets to all the neat exhibits I usually wouldn't spring for, including this kind of bizarre but fascinating movie about beavers. I for some reason never realized 1) how adorable they are and 2) how weird they are. I've come away from this little mini-movie with a momentary obsession with beavers. They are so fun to draw! Expect more sketches, but for now here's the first good one I managed to get down this afternoon. Those feet!! Swoon!

Today I went to the beach with a few friends and went swimming in the ocean. This is kind of a Big Deal for me, since I'm normally terrified of getting in the water. But it was really clear and the water was beautiful so it beckoned me in! I am weirdly buoyant, so I spent most of the time floating along the waves. Good times.

Seriously though. Wasn't expecting that. The class was this mix of step, jump rope, kickboxing, and yoga. I haven't exercised in like 2 months cos, well, what's the point? But I've been having trouble sleeping so I figured if I was legitimately tuckered out, I'd sleep better (Which totally worked, by the way). Anyways, the lady who taught the class was insanely hyper and REALLY happy to be there. She told us her name but I didn't use it in a sentence so I promptly forgot. Gym instructors are always really misleading cos they're generally big, busty women who make you think "well hey if she can handle it, I should be fine." But NO. These women are high-efficiency machines fueled by some kind of magical endless energy source. Or cocaine.
Starts off well enough but then I quickly realized that I am grossly over-estimating my abilities here, and I start to fade. The instructor saw me constantly trying to keep my glasses from sliding down my nose and tells me to take em off. So I do and she then proceeds to keep going "Watch me! Look over here at what I'm doin!" Fffff. All in all the class was hilarious. She had to kick me out for a while to get some air cos she was afraid I was going to pass out. How sad is that?? I'm sure I made a total spectacle of myself, but I am totally going next week anyway! haaaah...

Livejournal's "Writer's Block" prompt was a rorschach test today and I drew my answer (which is kind of counter productive, isn't it?).
Either way, I really enjoyed the idea of making a drawing out of your immediate first impression of something. I'm sure I'm not the first to think of it or anything, but it'd be really fun to do more of these. Not to mention the texture is beautiful!

So I'm back from my 2 week vacation to sunny SoCal! I spent most of my time in Huntington Beach soaking up the scenery and beautiful weather, and taking the occasional trip up to LA. On our last day we went to Disneyland and got stuck on 4 rides during the course of the day. Disneyland is a little defective.

We also rode space mountain 3 times and the pictures came out basically like this:

Since I have such an abundance of free time on my hands lately, I thought it would be fun to go back and re-do a bunch of design work I did of a character of mine back in mid-2006 at SCAD. I like the character and his story which, some day maybe I'll get into, but the old stuff definitely needed re-working, so off I go!
So far managed to pin down a design I like and am working on a turnaround, but his front view is giving me trouble. To keep from getting stuck and/or throwing something I decided to switch gears to some fun stuff and did a few expressions.

So, I'm not sure if this is true for you guys too but one of my favorite things to draw when I'm just sitting around and wanna get the stylus moving is myself. It's easy and doesn't require a lot of overthinking and that's nice!
I'm not sure if my choice of subject matter is because I'm some kind of huge narcissist or that this way I won't offend anybody but myself if I screw it up heh. Probably both.

Also for some reason I generally tend to draw myself looking grumpy or annoyed. Lighten up, self!

I've decided to be a little more proactive about drawing as much as possible and, being attention-starved as I am, figured it would be a good motivator to share these tidbits with you all. Expect lots of drawings of girls, animals, and other generally round and adorable things. Also any experiments with REAL ART I may or may not attempt in my never-ending struggle to learn how to draw.

I'll start off with a few things that aren't exactly new, but I figured I should break the ice regardless.
