Cry me a river

I'm going home to PA for Xmas tomorrow and I have to work on freelance while I'm home. Cintiqs don't travel well, so I'm borrowing my roommate's laptop and dusting off my little tablet. I plugged it in to make sure it worked and.. oh my lord, awkward. It feels like I'm drawing with my FEET. Maaaan, hope I get used to it quick haha.
Anyways, here is an appropriate drawing to go with that sob story

Motivational Art!

My friend Katy and I were trying to psyche ourselves up for some animating earlier today. I drew a little something to motivate us lol

Gesture Drawings

So I've been attending the Tuesday night ASIFA sessions at SVA for the past 4 weeks, and it's quickly becoming the highlight of my week lol. Get Chipotle on 6th ave, then draw naked people for a couple hours! What could be better? Sadly tonight was the last one until sometime early Feb. But I'll be back for sure.

My first few sessions were spent shaking the rust off, and since scanning is a huge pain in the ass, I'll just share drawings from tonight. Our model was amazing, like he stepped out of a Loomis anatomy book. So much fun to draw!

Lettuce Con 3

Diet is still going well but there are certain things I'm having trouble with. Namely getting sick of everything I'm allowed to eat lol. If I see, smell, or even think about soup ever again I think I might puke haha oopsies

Lettuce Con: Week 2

I forgot to eat lunch yesterday and by the time I had to make dinner my hunger had reached critical mass.
This will never happen again.

Peacock

Was feelin a little burnt out today. After doing a bunch of sketches I decided to take a break from lines and just paint with blobs. Yay, blobs! Referenced from a photo somewhere on the world wide interwebs.

Dino Doodles

First one: boring, to get a feel for how they look

Lettuce Con: Day 2

Phanatic Woes

Watching the game last night it struck me how sad the Phanatic must be, surrounded by all that FOOD at Citizen's Bank Park, and yet unable to eat any of it. No Tony Luke's, no hoagies, no crab fries, no water ice.

I know how you feel, Phanatic! ; ;

New Coat

I got a neeeeeew coat! I no longer look like someone who can't dress themselves!
Thanks dad!

Astoria Park

Yesterday my pal Jeanne and I went to Astoria park to eat sandwiches, soak up some sun, and drink in public. Good times.

Baseball via txt msg

Watched last night's NLCS game alone (well, aside from the occasional appearance by my roommate) so, seeing as I have no fellow Phillies fans around, I texted my dad the whole game lol. Sounds kinda pathetic but was actually hilarious. Phillies are the most fun team to watch in baseball, hands down! I mean, look at this: Shane Victorino looks exactly like R'as Al Ghul

Baseball Doodles

Watchin' the Angels Yankees game Saturday night. 13 innings is a long time to be sittin in front of the TV so I decided to multitask lol. These were done straight in pen and are therefore less-than-stellar, but were fun anyway!

One of those nights

Some sickening cuteness. Art therapy!

Hagrid Hair

I am in desperate need of a haircut. Like... not in that flippant, girly, "I need a change" kinda way. More like the "my hair is so fucking long and tangled and awful it's ridiculous" kinda way.
Friday night I went to Brooklyn for a friend's birthday. It was raining and freezing, so I decided to throw on my winter coat. Now I have lost a few pounds since last winter, so my coat looks more like a tent than a coat. That coupled with my ENORMOUS hair, I looked uncannily like Hagrid. Minus the beard. Though even that's only a matter of time.

Cold Weather

It has suddenly become full-blown freezing here in NY. As a result I am spending as much time as possible drawing whatever crap comes to mind for the sole purpose of hovering over the cintiq for warmth. Bless you, Wacom!

Salty Dog

Yet another birthday drawing! This time for my pal Melissa, salty dog lol

On another, completely unrelated note: I am addicted to the Uniqlock!

Hourlies

Behold, a really loooooooooooooooong image!

I was inspired by a few Very Cool Artists online who have been doing hourly journal comics, so I thought I'd try my hand. By which I mean totally wreck my hand cos ow holy crap drawing is hard!
lol

Either way, Happy Birthday, Dad!! <3

Pushup Fail

Still trying to get in some semblance of shape. Still failing miserably, lol.
Amelia taught me to do some pushup-esque move where you make like a plank for 10 seconds, then prop yourself on your elbows for 10 seconds, then get back up. She made it look so easy and I literally could not do it! I am so weeeeeeeeaaaak. Well at least now I have a goal!

Fall already?

Been very autumn-y in New York the past couple of days. Guess summer is officially dead, huh?

Some Fluff

Drew this between things I SHOULD be working on.
I have serious concentration issues haha. Bartram and Basalt, I sure do love to draw them!

Basalt Turnaround

Quick and dirty turnaround I did to kinda keep from getting rusty. I didn't use any strict guides or anything so stuff probably doesn't come close to lining up right hah. Was going more for the feel of the character than technicalities. Turnarounds are so challenging but satisfying when done right. Someday I'll get there! hah...

Unemployment Nest

Tryin' out PaintTool SAI so I used easy subject matter. Textures and such added in PS, though.
Looked out into the living room at my clone for reference, lol. That poster is actually in the wrong place, but I didn't feel like drawin the DVD rack. It's from http://www.thisisthenewyear.com/ they make fabulous stuff
Anyways, here is where I spent 1/3 of my time pretending to draw but actually just watching CSI reruns. The other 2/3 are spent in front of the cintiq or in bed. The end.

Doodles

Some doodles from the past couple days:
click to enlarge, you know the drill!

A duck!
Meanwhile, back at the wrench

Based on an email thread with some of my old coworkers about the station fire in LA being the Nothing from the Neverending Story. Whoooosh!

Beavers

Yesterday I went to the American Museum of Natural History with my Aunt, Uncle, and two younger cousins while they were visiting the city. They were generous enough to get me tickets to all the neat exhibits I usually wouldn't spring for, including this kind of bizarre but fascinating movie about beavers. I for some reason never realized 1) how adorable they are and 2) how weird they are. I've come away from this little mini-movie with a momentary obsession with beavers. They are so fun to draw! Expect more sketches, but for now here's the first good one I managed to get down this afternoon. Those feet!! Swoon!

Sephora Fail

While home in PA I went to Sephora to get some makeup help because I am a terrible girl. I asked for a fresh everyday look, very subtle and I got... well, it's an everyday look for someone out there, I'm sure....lol

Copic sketches

Went home to Philly to visit my family for the week, so I've been separated from my beloved cintiq. I managed to eke out some sketches with my newfound love, a c1 Copic marker. I had to take photos of these pages since it scans horribly lol.
Not much to see, but fun to do!

Wave Ridin'

Today I went to the beach with a few friends and went swimming in the ocean. This is kind of a Big Deal for me, since I'm normally terrified of getting in the water. But it was really clear and the water was beautiful so it beckoned me in! I am weirdly buoyant, so I spent most of the time floating along the waves. Good times.

Working out is hard to do

Seriously though. Wasn't expecting that. The class was this mix of step, jump rope, kickboxing, and yoga. I haven't exercised in like 2 months cos, well, what's the point? But I've been having trouble sleeping so I figured if I was legitimately tuckered out, I'd sleep better (Which totally worked, by the way). Anyways, the lady who taught the class was insanely hyper and REALLY happy to be there. She told us her name but I didn't use it in a sentence so I promptly forgot. Gym instructors are always really misleading cos they're generally big, busty women who make you think "well hey if she can handle it, I should be fine." But NO. These women are high-efficiency machines fueled by some kind of magical endless energy source. Or cocaine.
Starts off well enough but then I quickly realized that I am grossly over-estimating my abilities here, and I start to fade. The instructor saw me constantly trying to keep my glasses from sliding down my nose and tells me to take em off. So I do and she then proceeds to keep going "Watch me! Look over here at what I'm doin!" Fffff. All in all the class was hilarious. She had to kick me out for a while to get some air cos she was afraid I was going to pass out. How sad is that?? I'm sure I made a total spectacle of myself, but I am totally going next week anyway! haaaah...

Ink Blotty

Livejournal's "Writer's Block" prompt was a rorschach test today and I drew my answer (which is kind of counter productive, isn't it?).
Either way, I really enjoyed the idea of making a drawing out of your immediate first impression of something. I'm sure I'm not the first to think of it or anything, but it'd be really fun to do more of these. Not to mention the texture is beautiful!

In other news, I'm going to see Thirst tonight at Sunshine Cinema. So expect possible vampire drawings in the future.

Meager comic offerings

In an attempt to just get my pencil moving more so I decided to do some little journal-comic type drawings in my sketchbook. Simultaneously fulfills my need to vent, my narcissism, and my need to get reacquainted with paper!
Here's a couple. Sorry for the terrible image quality, making scans look presentable is a lost art for me!

Types of sunburn I have gotten so far this summer:

Reading emails in Madison Square Park:
